did you check tire pressures?

The fuel pump is doing its job. It's likely that the float valve on the carburettor isn't closing. Either the valve is stuck open, or the float has cracked and isn't floating any more.

It's also possible that the pump is producing too much pressure and preventing the float valve from closing. I'd check the valve and float first, though.

what does that have to do with the carburetor?

More than likely the carb. Is there a return fuel line on his Buick? Just curious. I'm not sure how a bad fuel pump could pump more fuel into the carb.

Carb issue most likely the pump diaphragm if I remember my carb troubleshooting correctly.

Try unplugging it, waiting 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

Fuel pressure is supplied from the tires.

...or maybe his pilot light went out, the eternal flame that burns off any excess fuel.

could you give him authorship I know hammerhead fist punch said he wants him to contribute more but this is kind of an urgent matter and he would have posted this himself if he had authorship

Ate something bad? Should go away in ~24hrs. Just make sure it has plenty of oil to stay hydrated. ;)

Give me more info. Is it streaming all the time or only when trying to start? Does it run? Could it be timing.

all the time. We did replace the distributor but that was yesterday and this just showed up this morning

Rebuilding the carb would likely help - most rebuild kits have new gaskets (possible culprit) and new float valve parts (other possible culprit).

Probably would. Though, if it is running right otherwise, I wouldn't go so far as to recommend a full rebuild – a replacement float and/or cleaning the float valve would probably fix it.

Gaskets are a good point. I'm mostly used to SU H and HS carbs, where the float bowl gasket only serves to stop fuel sloshing out when cornering. Still, I'm always slightly hesitant to do a full needles-and-jets rebuild on an otherwise-OK carburettor – I'm of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of thought.

Hmm. My carb (qjet) spat fuel out the top but only when my timing was off. Sadly I'm not sure what the problem could be. Check the timing and check to make sure all your lines are good. Check the fuel pump by pulling the hose off before the carb and making sure is works as normal. That's all I've got. Sorry I can't help more.

I agree with the guys saying float valve, that's what it was when my old scooter carb started spewing petrol.

Make sure the floats are set correctly and the needle/seat valve is not sticking. And while you are at it check the air bleeds to make sure there's no crap in there.

What type of carb?

The needle might be stuck. But it most likely is an issue with float level. What kind of carb?

Sounds like a stuck float in the bowl, this will make it spray the same amount of fuel at idle as it should at wide open. Id replace the carb unless its newish, their a few hundred bucks and can make a night and day difference to the drivability. Also I'm disappointed at how little people know about carbs on here.

We figured it out: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/introduction-a…

He and I are gonna work on getting the plug back in on monday. It was spewing out the top because we didnt take the entire filter assembly off and the bottom bracket was covering the real issue
